2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from the president's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.
Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving Ben soon. We are all eager to continue witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
Experience of the Incoming Head
Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that change every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."
The game does not have an official launch window or platforms, but players can look forward to more updates as production continues.
